Our Mission |
An integral part of the SVSU Center for Community Writing, the Saginaw Bay Writing Project (SBWP) works to promote the teaching of writing throughout the Mid-Michigan area. The SBWP offers professional development where teachers learn best practices in teaching writing and grow as writers themselves. As a National Writing Project site, we provide outreach to area schools, offer a variety of workshops and summer institutes on best practices in teaching writing, and sponsor local writing retreats for area teachers. Here at the SBWP, we develop a network of effective teachers who share their successes, foster a community of teachers who are also writers, encourage personal and professional growth in the teaching of writing, and improve the writing of Michigan students at all levels.

Current Workshops/Events |
The Saginaw Bay Writing Project offers multi-day teacher workshops every summer in the Thumb region and Great Lakes Bay region of Michigan. Led by teachers, these workshops involve sharing best practices in the teaching of writing through responding to multiple writing tasks, engaging in group discussion, and developing lesson plans. We are fortunate to have been able to partner with SVSU, individual donors, the Huron Country Community Foundation, the Bad Axe Rotary Club, and the Alden and Vada Dow Creativity Foundation to be able to offer these workshops to our K–12 teachers.
To learn more about our upcoming workshops, visit our "Current Workshops/Events" page. |
ResourcesThe writing project believes in providing our teachers with good resources to help them grow as writers and teachers of writing. Here you’ll find online sites focused on the teaching of writing, instructional videos for students created by the SVSU Community Writing Center on writing in different genres, and the writing of our teachers themselves.
