The Saginaw Bay Writing Project began in 1997, housed on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. This National Writing Project site was created to support K-12 teachers by sharing best practices in the teaching of writing. Our writing project has served over 400 teacher/writers in the Great Lakes Bay Region and Thumb area of Michigan over the past 24 years.
The SBWP site has offered four-week summer institutes, graduate coursework through the SVSU College of Education, multi-day workshops, writing groups, and writing events, along with a summer writing camp for middle and high school students. The majority of our programs are provided at a free or reduced rate to teachers and students, due to the generosity of local organizations and individual donors.
